Sue Styles has a Master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Michigan and has spent over 20 years working in proficiency testing. She is the Quality and Compliance Manager at American Proficiency Institute (API), the second-largest provider of clinical PT in the United States, with over 20,000 participating laboratories. In that role she is responsible for accreditation, government approvals, statistics, and homogeneity and stability assessment. Sue also helped manage the food proficiency testing scheme conducted by API for 17 years.
After spending several years introducing new technologies and process improvements at API, including helping to design the first online PT result entry system for clinical laboratories, Sue has been responsible for obtaining ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation for three different PT programs. As part of maintaining API’s quality management system, she hosts outside audits and conducts internal audits and supplier audits.
Sue has received training on ISO/IEC 17043, ISO 13528, ISO 19011, and U.S. laboratory regulations. She has attended U.S. and international conferences on food safety, laboratory medicine, and proficiency testing. She has also co-authored papers and posters on various aspects of proficiency testing.
